As explained by erudite Sages and Maharishis, all the radiant and luminous celestial bodies present in immense and limitless sky is denoted by the word ‘Jyoti‘ and the study of its appearance, nature, effect and related subjects is called astrology or jyotishshastra. Astrology has been categorized into three parts i.e. Principle (Siddhanta), Code (Sanhita) and Time (Horaa). The mathematical subjects like travel, speed, placement of celestial bodies is dealt by mathematical astrology which is Astrology of Principle or Astrology of Mathematics (Gandit Jyotish) while the study of auspicious or malefic effect of the celestial bodies upon human life and how they are running our lives is the subject explained by Astrology of Consequence (Falit Jyotish). The Astrology of Codes explicates the subjects like information related to natural calamities, disasters due to divinity, universe, planets (divyaantarikshyabhaumadi utpat) and the nature and relationship of planets.
Our lives originate in the solar system and disappears within it. Our life cycles inside the cycle of solar system. Our bodies are made of the same five elements (Panchamahabhut:)[earth, water, radiation, wind, sky) which forms the universe. “Yat Pinde Tad Brahmande‘ which means human body is made of the same matter which forms this universe. In this manner, our bodies made of those five elements will finally disappear into the same five elements. Therefore, our bodies have interdependent relation with the celestial bodies. Our bliss and sorrows, success and failures, bankruptcy; everything of livelihood is connected with the celestial bodies. Like we wake up with the sun, we work as long as sun remains in the sky, and when the sun starts setting we return home, and we sleep when the sun has set. The celestial bodies are governing us in this way. It has therefore been explained in Veda that “Surya Aatma Jagatashthukhshcha” which means the Sun is the owner of our spirit. The celestial bodies can make some vagabond a king and some king a vagabond –
“Grahaa Rajyam Prayachchhanti Grahaa Rajyam Haranti Cha .
Grahaiwaryaaptamidam sarwa trailokyam sa characharam..”
